Carousel posts have doubled! Instead of being able to share 10 images in a carousel post, you can now share up to 20 photos and videos.
What Are Carousel Posts?
If you don't use “carousel” posts often or aren’t sure what they are, they're the posts that you have to swipe through to see all the video and images. They're popular for doing a photo 'dump' of recent images. But they can be used in other ways, too.
You can add music and collaborate with others who can contribute to the series of images. --A pretty neat feature.
While carousel posts aren't as big as reels for discoverability, they can play a big role in connecting with your audience as your core followers are very likely to click through the images. That leads to building good relationships with your community.
Think of it like a zine...but you swipe through the images instead of flipping through them. And, some of the ‘pages’ can be video.
Idea for how you can use a long carousel post....
✏️Tell me a story of what you worked on today in the studio or on the biz side of what you do.
📷✍🏼Alternate between photos and text to share the story.
🦄Include an ask for people to like the post or drop a🖐🏼in the comments if the story resonated with them.
The images and videos are often called “slides”. And, you don’t have to use all 20 that are available to you. The goal is to connect with your community and share something that they’d care about and that lets them know a little more about who you are.
Carousel Example
Here’s a great example by ceramicist Kate Schroeder, @kate.schroeder.ceramics. She used a carousel to show the different angles of this piece along with close-ups of the details.
Her feed also features another example of a carousel that’s highlighting and inviting people to the Modern Clay Summit that she’s doing with other people. This is great inspiration for how to use a carousel for your next art opening or pop-up!
Does this spark a story-telling idea for you?
Let me know in the comments. I’d love to high-five you on getting your work in front of more people through the cool things you share online. 😊
