How I’m Using ChatGPT Right Now

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here. I love to use it for brainstorming when I feel stuck. Mostly this is when I’m writing copy. It can do a lot more, but using it as a glorified thesaurus is what my main use of it boils down to.

My Issue with ChatGPT

If you’re like me, one of my thoughts is that I don’t want the model learning from my questions and general goofing around within the ChatGPT app. Maybe using AI may bring up a few concerns for you, too?

Why Disable The Feature?

Privacy and security concerns seem to top the list for most people when they think about this. There are many things like sensitive personal or business-related information that people want to keep private.

And, there are ethical and personal objections to having your data used to train AI systems.

Specific concerns creative brains may have about their conversations being used in AI training may include:

  • Protection of original creative ideas, techniques, and works-in-progress before they're ready to be shared with the world.

  • Discussions of their unique processes that give them a competitive edge.

  • Privacy around the business side of their creative practice. Like detailed breakdowns of their pricing, client negotiations, and business practices.

  • Creative brainstorming sessions that could include valuable conceptual ideas they're developing.

  • Draft information about upcoming exhibitions, collaborations or projects, that aren't yet public.

  • Concerns about their style or techniques being used to train AI art generators that could potentially replicate their work.

  • Personal interpretations or meanings behind their art, creations and services that they may not want publicly analyzed or repurposed.

Resolving the AI Problem

While watching the free webinar, Automate Your Tax Prep, given by my friend and money coach, Rachelle Siebke and automation expert, Jesse Parker, I heard that you can turn off the learning model feature.

Yes! This is exactly what I want to do. They shared a lot of other helpful things around making your tax preparation process easier so email them if you’d like to get a copy of the replay.

So, I hopped into my ChatGPT account and adjusted the settings so my entries wouldn’t be a part of the learning model. And, I thought that you might be interested in doing this, too.

Here are screenshots of the exact steps I used to turn off the learning model feature in ChatGPT.

Steps To Turn Off The Learning Model

Step 1

Open and login to your ChatGPT browser. Click on the small, orange circle in the upper right.

Step 4

You’ll then be able to see text that says “Improve the model for everone.” Click on the text that says “On”.

Step 4 to turn off the learning model training

Step 5

You’ll see text that says “Improve the model for everyone” with a toggle-like button next to it. Click on that toggle-button to disable the model learning from your interaction with the AI software.

On your device, these steps may look different. If this is the case, look at all of your settings to see if you can find where they’ve made this option available. You can also Google it.

Step 6

When you’ve clicked on the toggle-button to disable model learning, it will go from black to grey. You’ll also see the Voice mode toggles go to grey with a small lock icon. All you have to do next is to click “Done”.

Use a Different AI Platform?

The app Claude.ai doesn’t learn or retain information from the conversations. It’s not connected to the internet, and I personally like this approach. Claude is supposed to be especially good at writing so I’m experimenting with it.

If you use other apps besides ChatGPT or Claude.ai, and you want to disable the learning model, can you look in the settings to see if there’s a way to turn off the feature that uses your prompts and replies to help the learning model? If you don’t find those settings, can you give it a quick Google search?

Artificial Intelligence tools like ChatGPT can be powerful, but they don’t replace the heart, soul, strategy, and human intelligence needed to build a sustainable art-based business. Whether you’re selling art, services, or both, knowing how to position your work, attract the right buyers, and create predictable income is key.

If you’re tired of getting lost down the Google and AI rabbit holes of knowledge, and want a clear path to making $3K–$5K per month doing what you love, I can help. Let’s craft a business model that works for you—without overwhelm or guesswork.
